 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District, in partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland, announces a new public art mural project at one of Montgomery County’s Public Park Garages located on Old Georgetown Road in downtown Bethesda, MD.
Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District is currently seeking proposals from artists who are 18 years of age or older and residents of Washington, D.C., Maryland or Virginia. Artists must have prior experience with the design and installation of large scale murals and are asked to submit a detailed, site-specific proposal for the Woodmont Avenue Garage. 


PROJECT DETAILS
There is one side of the Old Georgetown Road/Woodmont Parking Garage to be used for the mural. Artists are invited to submit proposals with no specific theme. Only the areas shown below are permitted to be painted.  The total size of the mural is approximately 2,800 square feet.  Please see the full RFP for the areas to be painted.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Artist is required to use a paint specific to outdoor wall/concrete use such as Keim, SherKryl, NovaColor by Artex or Golden Artist Colors, etc. The artwork should be suitable for outside elements and change in temperature and as impervious to vandalism as possible, requiring little or no maintenance. 
  • Artist(s) must be 18 years of age or older and resident(s) of Washington, D.C., Maryland or Virginia.
  • Artists are expected to carry their own general liability insurance. 


PROJECT STIPEND
$27,500 will be provided to the selected artist. This sum is inclusive of all artist(s) fees, insurance, fabrication, installation, travel and all other project related expenses. Necessary lifts and scaffolding will be provided and associated fees will not be the responsibility of the selected artist. 


PROJECT TIMELINE
All applicants are asked to submit a detailed, site-specific proposal for the Woodmont-Rugby Parking Garage Mural by August 6, 2021.
A final artist(s) will be chosen to complete the project and will be notified on or before August 30, 2021.
The final project must be completed by November 15, 2021, and within four weeks of the start date.  The artist or team of artists will coordinate their work schedule with the Bethesda Urban Partnership.
